This blue bodied, brown headed small bird belongs to family of Kingfisher. Kingfisher got their name from their extra ordinary fishing skills. It has a long, bright red beak followed by a white front which helps in catching the fish. It is found near reservoirs, canals, streams, cultivation etc. It is called Kilkila in Hindi and Khandya in Marathi. It is most commonly found from the family of kingfishers. It creates a loud and high pitch sound. Its nesting season is between March to July. It’s a birdie’s delight to watch the kingfisher performing its fishing job.
